4.26.09

we found a few deals for the fairfield house in various places this week. a microwave, two medicine cabinets & a small side table at the second hand building supply store that benefits a local rehab program.

a king size mattress, pine table & chairs, some pots & pans & cheap dressers in an online auction of items from the close by bankrupt tamarack resort. so we drove up with our goodies today. tho it will take more than me to get that mattress upstairs!

the snowmobiles came down. doesn't look much different from monday. we did see some elk & cranes on the drive, and it was sunny & a beautiful day.

here are some photos of the furnishings and a video walk through of the house so far-

thank goodness for the snowmobile trailers!

been a while

looks a bit different from the last post.... no snow in town.

dogs back to racing around behind the house. what we thought would be marshy isn't. it's dry.
echo guarding the house from the driveway-
porch gets put to use- it's great, and i'm sure we'll be out there a lot. the house is a great wind break :)
john made this bed frame. it will hold a king size mattress- room for me, steve & both dogs. not quite finished out, but it will look great when done.
the scenery from the house-

a field trip to soldier mountain. still a bit of snow on the ski hill, but not much.
lots of water running in the creek-

the ski lodge burned down a few weeks ago. don't know what they're going to do- rebuild or use temporary structures next season. it looks like it was really hot.
and a field trip to camas centennial marsh in search of sand hill cranes. there is a lot of water.

saw 4 cranes at a distance. running at each other, flying a bit. i love the way all cranes fly with their feet sticking out.
and a yellow headed blackbird.

i need to go back & get out the tripod & just sit for a while to see what birds come back & hang out.
found the second hand building store in hailey- lots of tile there. the one in boise had a microwave for $15 (score!) and some medicine cabinets for $15 and $20. slowly but surely we're getting there!

Less snow

The drive down Sage St.

Not much snow left in front, but still have a large drift out the back door.

nothing new inside as you can see.

Still a nice view out the kitchen window.

Looking out the back door. With the weather prediction for the next several days calling for warm temps, up to 50 here, the snow isn't going to last long. And then rain at the end of next week.

Well we have one more final as can be seen here. Just need to get the master bath finished up and then we can call in for the final plumbing inspection. Oh and then we'll need to call the city inspector to come do the final final as I call it.

march 7 and 8

made it up to get a little bit of work done this weekend. i wasn't much help- really tired and trying not to get sick.

steve was really productive tho! the ceiling fan made it up last time steve was up.
we took the games that have been gathering dust in the basement up. no tv, no internet connection- they may actually get played! and it's at a point where we can sit down once in a while and relax.
we got there around sunset- this is how it looked from the master bedroom.
steve's plan for the weekend was to get the floor down in the guest bath upstairs.

things are coming along nicely. i really like the color of the walls, and as suspected the white towels & fixtures provide a nice contrast.
we went to the brew pub for dinner and music. this week a guitarist, bass player & harmonica. they were great fun! played dylan, neil young, you are my sunshine- all in their own style. it is a treat to be able to go and drink a nice glass of wine (or beer), have good food & hear good music. it's like a concert in your living room.

then home, back to work this morning. steve finished the bathroom (see above) and got the ceiling grates up in the bedrooms. i slept in and the dogs and i had a short romp on the snow.

here's the jeep all fitted out with the plow courtesy of jake. steve got to push a little snow around this morning, but not much. i'm sure it will come in handy again tho.
here's some proof that fun is to be had- all set to go off on an adventure.
it was a beautiful day.

Electrical

Happy days. We passed our final electrical inspection without any bumps, surprises or whatevers. Nice to have it out of the way. The light fixtures are all still up and working. Of course they are. Not much to report other than that. Still a lot of work to be done, but it'll have to happen when the snow is gone or to cruddy on the hill to ski. Don't have many weeks of skiing left, unless winter decides to show back up soon. Pinapple express is here at the moment, but I'm hoping we get a colder front with moisture out of the gulf of Alaska before the month is out. More snow pack is needed for the summer water.
Stay tuned.

Real Doors

We now have the for real, permanent doors up and the construction doors headed back to their home at the bldg supply store. It was a very good idea using construction doors until things that tend to bang and bump into doors are inside. Of course not all of those things have been moved in, but hopefully the majority of it. Looks more and more like a real house. That is all that is really new for now. We hope to call for an inspection next week and see if we can get an official occupancy permit and hopefully get an idea of just how close we are to being able to pass our final inspection.
Back to the doors, Red for the front, Marianne's choice and Dark Blue for the back, Steve's choice.

John hooked up the washer, dryer and gave them a test run. All working fine. We did get a little more snow, not enough to get excited about, but more is in the forecast for Monday night. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Play Day

Happy days! All of the light fixtures are up and working. What a relief it is to have them done. Oh and the fan in the master bedroom is up as well. So now we have some interior painting of the walls, interior doors to put in, flooring to put down and some other stuff, but I think we're close enough to get occupancy. Should be ready for the final before July easily enough.
So today John and I went out for a little exploratory ride on the sleds. Needed to get an access route scoped out for some back country skiing.
This post will be long on photos and not much else. The first shot is on the way in and where we ultimately wanted to end up.

A little closer. I hoped to get right on top of that slot to the right. Nice little avy path to get into the top of and ski.

A little closer.

Well I was able to climb right up on top of it and with a little more effort and time I could have been standing right in the top, (oh and I didn't pack my skis with me today), but John got me nervous with his riding around down at the bottom of this in the bowl where it all runs out. He made some runs up towards the bottom of it. With more run and really pinning it, he could of made it further up, but glad he didn't press it as I was not in a position to get to him as quick as I'd like if it slid.
This is the view from the top and side looking down it.

The middle.

And the run out at the bottom.

There is John goofing around in the trees at the bottom.
Anyway we had a nice ride, scenery was great to say the least. Terrain for miles and miles. The camera batteries finally started to die before I could take some of the panorama shots that show all the mountains in every direction. Can't give it all up just yet. We have winters and winters to get it all ridden and ski up. It'll take all the time we can come up with.
Nice to be able to do something at the base camp besides work.
